"Street Cuts"... A Struggle Resembling Human Life!
Among the theatrical productions currently running and achieving notable success since their premiere on the blessed Eid al-Adha holiday is the play “Street Cats,” which has drawn significant public interest. It is being staged at the Kuwait Girl Guides Association theater in the Bin Qamar area, blending comedy with social commentary.
The play, which Al-Rai attended a performance of, is classified as a social comedy. Its story unfolds in a fantasy setting inspired by the lives of cats, using a satirical and humorous style to address various social issues. It highlights multiple messages through feline characters that are commonly found in homes, streets, complexes, and outside doors, among other places.
In the story, written by Abdullah Al-Badr and directed by Mohammed Jamal Al-Shatti, the cast successfully presents a range of social issues through the world of cats.
The characters face social and racial conflicts, love, loyalty, and interests, among other aspects of human daily life, but these are portrayed here within a humorous and fantastical social framework.
Behind the scenes, Al-Rai observed the atmosphere and spoke with several cast members, who shared their experiences and the positive reception the production has received.
Initially, artist Abdulaziz Al-Nassar expressed his happiness over the strong public turnout and the continuation of the play’s performances since Eid al-Adha, while praising the efforts of the entire production team.
He said, “The most important thing for us is the audience, which is why we always strive to present a light-hearted comedy that also addresses social issues reflecting reality and aligning with current events. The choice of cat characters was aimed at presenting a different concept and highlighting various issues in an unconventional way.”
For his part, artist Khaled Al-Saggar did not hide his satisfaction with the positive feedback the play has garnered, emphasizing that its success is the result of collective efforts involving all team members.
He added, “I portray the role of one of the cats in a comedic framework, through which I address several social issues in a humorous manner.”
For her part, Omani actress Ghada Al-Zidjali confirmed that her collaboration with “Abdulaziz Al-Nassar Group” has been ongoing for the fourth or fifth consecutive year, noting that she has participated in several successful theatrical experiences with them.
She added, “What distinguishes this production is the spirit of cooperation and love among all team members, and everyone’s commitment to exchanging feedback to improve the show. This is clearly reflected on stage and reaches the audience, who continue to support and attend. In turn, we always strive to deliver our best for them.”
On his part, director Mohammed Jamal Al-Shatti spoke about his experience with the production, saying, “It was an opportunity to energize the entire team, and I thank Abdulaziz Al-Nassar for being the producer who gave me confidence in directing. Everyone collaborated with me professionally and accepted all feedback on every scene, always agreeing on what would benefit the production.”
He concluded, “Trust breeds creativity and comfort. The most rewarding thing for me is the audience’s praise, which they express spontaneously. We promise you that what comes next will be even better.”
