5 Breakfast Recipes That Keep You Full Until Lunch

If you find yourself feeling hungry just two hours after eating breakfast, the problem may not be the amount of food you consumed, but rather its quality. Jessica Poll, a nutrition expert, writes on EatingWell.com that a breakfast containing less than 20 grams of protein fails to suppress the hunger hormone ghrelin, which leads to unhealthy snacking before lunchtime.
The magazine presents five quick recipes (each taking no more than 15 minutes to prepare), with each containing 25 to 40 grams of protein. Studies have shown that consuming these in the morning increases your metabolic rate by 15 to 25 percent for the rest of the day, compared to a carbohydrate-rich breakfast.
1. Triple-Protein Greek Yogurt: Mix 200 grams of fat-free Greek yogurt with two tablespoons of casein protein powder, add a handful of frozen berries, and one teaspoon of honey. (35 grams of protein).
3. Chia Seed Pudding with Protein Milk: Soak 40 grams of chia seeds in 250 ml of protein milk (cow’s milk or fortified plant-based milk) overnight, and garnish with nuts. (22 grams of protein).
4. Peanut Butter Smoothie: Blend one frozen banana, two tablespoons of peanut butter, 200 ml of soy milk, and one tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder. (26 grams of protein).
Poll explains that protein boosts metabolism through three mechanisms: First, its high thermic effect (the body burns more calories digesting protein than carbohydrates). Second, it helps preserve muscle mass, which continues to burn calories even at rest. Third, it prolongs feelings of fullness by slowing gastric emptying and stabilizing blood sugar levels.
However, the website warns against adding refined sugars to these recipes (such as excessive honey or sweetened syrups), as they negate the metabolic benefits. It also advises those with lactose intolerance to use protein-rich plant-based alternatives (such as soy milk or fortified coconut yogurt). Finally, it emphasizes that drinking plenty of water is essential for protein metabolism, as the kidneys require adequate fluids to excrete nitrogenous waste.
