Vance: We do not trust Iran's commitments regarding the Strait of Hormuz... and we verify them

US Vice President JD Vance said that Iran had informed the United States of its readiness to allow the maximum possible flow of oil and gas through the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing that Washington would not trust this commitment until it was verified in practice. Vance added, “The Iranians are hurting and want to end this,” noting that the US administration is working on a plan to ensure the safe passage of ships through the strait.

The US vice president warned against declaring the crisis over, adding, “We are still in the midst of the battle, and it is not over yet.”

He continued, “We expect oil and gas flows from the Gulf to continue at the same levels they were at before the conflict. That is what the Iranians have told us, but we do not trust; we verify.”

Vance’s remarks came amid talks between Iran and the Sultanate of Oman regarding the creation of a new navigation route in the strait, while Tehran is linking the resumption of full transit to Washington meeting additional conditions, including compensation for violations it claims have affected previous understandings, according to Reuters.
