Kuwaiti anchor Fatima Al-Salman became the talk of the streets and social media after capturing attention with her first appearance presenting the news digest for the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), proving that determination and talent can overcome all challenges, and that visual impairment is not a barrier to achieving success.
In an interview with "Al-Rai," Al-Salman, whose voice touched hearts before eyes, confirmed that what happened after her debut exceeded all expectations. She noted that her phone has not stopped receiving calls and messages since the broadcast of the digest, expressing her great happiness over the scale of interaction and praise she received from various segments of society.
She said, "At first, I expected congratulations only from friends and colleagues, but I was surprised by the widespread spread of the clip. I received very touching comments, some of which described the delivery as if it were playing the news, which has placed a greater responsibility on me to continue and deliver the best."
She clarified that her passion for media began during her years of study at the College of Mass Communication at Kuwait University, where she dreamed of standing in front of the camera. However, she chose to focus on her studies at the time, before returning today to realize her dream after years of preparation and training.
She added that she was not seeking fame or trending on social media, but rather aimed to provide professional work worthy of the audience. She explained that she underwent specialized training courses and practiced daily at home by recording texts, reviewing them, listening to them, and critiquing her performance until she reached the level she aspired to.
Al-Salman admitted that she felt significant nervousness during her first appearance, especially since presenting the digest is done standing in front of the camera. However, the support of her colleagues in the work environment helped her overcome the fear of the beginning, allowing the experience to emerge in a manner that won public approval.
She revealed that she relies on the Braille technique connected to a computer when reading the bulletin. She receives the text via email and reads it through an electronic Braille keyboard, which allows her to navigate between lines with ease and accuracy during the presentation.
She emphasized that, after God, the credit for her journey goes to her family, particularly her mother, who was her greatest supporter throughout all stages of her life, along with her professors and teachers who believed in her abilities and encouraged her to develop her talent from a young age.
Al-Salman addressed society with a message, saying, "I hope to be a model that confirms that people with disabilities are capable of achievement and creativity whenever given the opportunity. Do not judge a person by their disability, but look at their potential. Today, technology has opened wide doors for us to realize our dreams."
Al-Salman scored 94.66% in the general secondary education exams in the literary section, ranking first among special education students. She also received recognition among the top graduates of the College of Mass Communication at Kuwait University.
