Messi tops the scorers list in the 'Leagues Cup'

Miami – AFP – Argentine star Lionel Messi became the all-time top scorer in the Leagues Cup on Wednesday, the annual tournament featuring clubs from the American and Mexican leagues, after leading Inter Miami to a 4-2 home victory over Atletico San Luis in the opening round of the group stage of the 2026 edition.
Messi, who helped Miami secure the 2023 title during his first weeks with the club, increased his tournament tally to 14 goals, surpassing Los Angeles FC winger Denis Bouanga by one goal.
David Rodriguez opened the scoring for the Mexican side in the fourth minute, before Messi equalized seven minutes later.
Venezuelan midfielder Tealab Segovia put Miami ahead in the 26th minute, and Messi added his second goal just before halftime. Brazilian defender Mikaell sealed the 4-1 scoreline in the final seconds of the first half.
