Eight Arab and Islamic countries reaffirm rejection of the displacement of Palestinians and the undermining of the two-state solution
Eight Arab and Islamic countries strongly condemned the continuous Israeli violations in the Gaza Strip, affirming that the targeting of health facilities and civilian infrastructure, along with the ongoing loss of civilian lives, particularly women and children, constitutes a grave violation of international law, including international humanitarian law.
In a joint statement, the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Indonesia, Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey stated that the continuation of these violations represents a clear breach of Israel’s obligations under international law and the comprehensive plan to end the conflict in Gaza. They noted that such actions undermine international and regional efforts to implement the second phase of the plan, especially following the announcement by US President Donald Trump that Palestinian factions had accepted the roadmap, including provisions regarding weapons restrictions. The ministers warned that continued escalation threatens to derail the political process, reignite the cycle of violence, and deepen the humanitarian catastrophe in the Strip.
The ministers emphasized that protecting civilians, safeguarding medical facilities and personnel in the health and humanitarian sectors, and ensuring the immediate, safe, and unhindered delivery of humanitarian, relief, and medical aid throughout the Gaza Strip are legal obligations that must not be violated under any circumstances.
The statement affirmed that the situation in Gaza cannot be separated from the attacks carried out by settlers in the occupied West Bank, illegal settlement expansion, and unilateral measures aimed at altering the status quo in occupied Jerusalem. It characterized these practices as a systematic policy of imposing facts on the ground by force, undermining the foundations of the two-state solution, and infringing upon the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, in blatant violation of international law and relevant UN resolutions.
The foreign ministers called on the international community, particularly the Security Council, to uphold its legal and moral responsibilities and to take practical and effective measures to compel Israel to fulfill its obligations under international and international humanitarian law, implement Security Council Resolution 2803, and hold accountable those responsible for serious violations, thereby contributing to the protection of civilians, preserving the prospects for completing the implementation of the agreement, and achieving a permanent ceasefire.
The ministers also reiterated their countries’ firm rejection of any attempts to annex occupied Palestinian territories or impose Israeli sovereignty over them, or to forcibly displace the Palestinian people. They affirmed that achieving just and comprehensive peace requires launching a serious political process leading to the implementation of the two-state solution, the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
