Mayo Clinic Trains Kuwaiti Doctors

In a move that opens a direct window for Kuwait’s health professionals to the expertise of one of the world’s leading medical and academic institutions, the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the US-based Mayo Clinic, launched a training platform to transfer knowledge and keep pace with the latest developments and practices shaping the future of medicine and healthcare, effective August 18.

During discussions between Health Minister Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadi and a delegation from the hospital regarding areas of joint cooperation and expanding opportunities for medical staff to benefit from educational programs and international expertise, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health Sheikh Dr. Salman Khalifa Al-Sabah told KUNA that the collaboration with Mayo Clinic represents a significant opportunity to leverage its diverse expertise, which extends beyond clinical aspects to include management and policy-making, making it one of the most important hospitals globally.

For his part, Dr. Hisham Kalander, Assistant Undersecretary for External Health Services Affairs at the Ministry, stated that the platform aims to facilitate knowledge exchange between the Ministry and the hospital and share the latest health practices that enhance service levels and care quality. He noted that the launch of the platform marks the beginning of a series of other projects, including a set of lectures continuing for over a year on a monthly basis with various topics aimed at developing the healthcare system.

Meanwhile, Dr. Omar Ghanem, Medical Director of Mayo Clinic in the Middle East, emphasized that the collaboration enables doctors in Kuwait to directly benefit from the expertise of a select group of specialists at the hospital, highlighting its extensive educational and research capabilities, which include 22 major research laboratories, five medical schools, and 450 educational programs, alongside an annual investment of approximately $1.3 billion in research.
