Lessons from the Invasion: Brotherhood as the Source of Strength
The thirty-sixth anniversary of the Iraqi aggression against the sisterly State of Kuwait recently passed, bringing to mind one of the most impactful milestones in the history of the Arabian Gulf, as it served as a true test of Gulf unity and cemented in the collective consciousness that the security of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states is indivisible, and that a shared destiny remains stronger than all challenges.
On this occasion, we remember the righteous martyrs of Kuwait who sacrificed their lives in defense of their homeland, and we proudly recall the sacrifices of the Kuwaiti resistance fighters, prisoners of war, the missing, and all Kuwaitis who embodied the highest meanings of patience, steadfastness, and faith in the justice of their cause during the months of occupation, until Kuwait regained its sovereignty and freedom through the resolve of its sons and the support of its brothers and friends.
The positions of the GCC states during that period will remain a shining mark in contemporary Gulf history, as they stood united in defense of Kuwait and its legitimacy, driven by a firm conviction that Kuwait’s security is an integral part of Gulf security, and that any aggression against a Gulf state is an aggression against all. This solidarity represented an enduring model of political, military, and humanitarian cooperation.
Qatar takes pride in the fact that its sons were part of this historic and honorable stance, as the Qatari Armed Forces participated alongside Kuwaiti and coalition forces in the defense and liberation of Kuwait, setting a brilliant example of courage and bravery.
This participation will remain a source of pride for the Qatari people and a cause for appreciation and esteem among their brothers in the State of Kuwait, as it vividly embodied the unity of blood and destiny among the people of the Gulf.
Today, Qatari-Kuwaiti relations continue their distinguished trajectory, witnessing continuous development across all fields, reflecting a shared vision to enhance joint Gulf efforts and consolidate the foundations of security, stability, and sustainable development in the region.
Commemorating this occasion reaffirms the importance of preserving the gains achieved thanks to the sacrifices of fathers and heroes, and renews the pledge that the Gulf states will remain a model of solidarity, integration, and cooperation.
