Kuwait Heritage Society... Documented the Brutal Invasion Events through Publications and Collections
In line with the firm national role it has undertaken since its inception, the Kuwait Heritage Association held its annual exhibition of publications, documents, and artifacts that chronicle the period of the brutal Iraqi invasion. This cultural and national initiative aims to commemorate the heroic deeds and eternal sacrifices made by Kuwaitis, and to preserve these testimonies so that this era remains perpetually present in human memory.
The exhibition was attended by a group of personalities who recalled the period of the brutal Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, including writer Layla Al-Othman, historian Farhan Al-Farhan, advisor Salah Al-Fadl, and Anwar Al-Ruwaidan. They shared their personal experiences, recounting the situations they endured during that period.
Regarding the documentary exhibition hosted by the Kuwait Heritage Association, the following individuals participated in presenting publications, documents, and artifacts: Secretary-General Jamana Bahbahani, Board of Directors members Saleh Al-Musabah and Hani Al-Awsaji, and Anwar Al-Ruwaidan. Each presented aspects of the documents and artifacts that document and chronicle that period and its events.
Bahbahani stated at the outset of her remarks that the exhibition has become an event through which we renew our pledge to Kuwait’s history, and we proudly recall the steadfastness and unity of its people in the face of the brutal Iraqi invasion.
She added, “This exhibition is not merely a display of documents, photos, and artifacts; rather, it is a message to future generations that homelands are preserved through loyalty, and that the memory of peoples is their fortress, which safeguards their identity and protects their history from oblivion.”
Meanwhile, Saleh Al-Musabah discussed his participation in the exhibition, explaining that he authored a book titled “Kuwaiti Publications on the Invasion and Liberation in the Saleh Al-Musabah Library” covering the period from 1990 to 2022. The book documents a journey spanning more than three decades of collecting and preserving publications related to the brutal Iraqi invasion.
Al-Musabah noted that he succeeded in collecting approximately 800 documents, which varied between newspapers, magazines, books, and pamphlets. He also documented all publications issued by government and civil institutions, Kuwaiti embassies abroad, as well as daily newspapers published during that period.
He added that he was keen to display a selected collection of these publications and documents at the exhibition due to their historical and national value, as they document the resilience and resistance of the Kuwaiti people against occupation, and reflect the magnitude of sacrifices and heroism displayed by Kuwaitis in the face of the brutal invasion.
For his part, Al-Awsaji emphasized that the Association was keen to organize this exhibition to highlight publications and documents that addressed that painful chapter in Kuwait’s history and the significant sacrifices it witnessed.
He noted that the exhibition documents the heroism displayed by Kuwaitis during the invasion period and showcases what has been written about it in books, publications, and documents, ensuring that these sacrifices remain present in the national consciousness.
Researcher Sulaiman Al-Musabah praised the national role played by the cooperative sector during the brutal Iraqi invasion, affirming that cooperative societies opened the doors of their branches and central markets to provide for citizens’ needs.
