Tehran says it has agreed with Muscat on coordinates for a proposed shipping route in the Strait of Hormuz

Iran announced that it has reached an agreement with the Sultanate of Oman regarding the geographical characteristics of the navigation route in the Strait of Hormuz, without disclosing further details about the nature of this understanding.

Ismail Baghaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the two sides had agreed on the geographical coordinates of the route proposed by both parties, noting that the joint statement between the two countries, including the key points and agreed-upon considerations, had entered its final review and drafting stage, provided there are no obstacles from third parties.

Baghaei clarified that this agreement, in itself, does not mean that the Strait of Hormuz has become safe, emphasizing that talks between Iran and the Sultanate of Oman, as the two coastal states of the strait, have been ongoing for about two months with the aim of establishing a safe navigation route for commercial shipping.
