Saudi Arabia: Royal decree appointing members of the 13 regional councils

A high royal decree in Saudi Arabia approved the appointment of members of the 13 regional councils of the Kingdom for their eighth term, for a period of four years, in a move aimed at supporting the trajectory of local development and enhancing the participation of national talents in determining regional priorities and monitoring their developmental needs.

Interior Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud expressed his gratitude to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and to Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman on the occasion of the issuance of the royal decree, affirming that it embodies the leadership’s continuous interest and support for the regional councils, and strengthens their role in contributing to the development of the Kingdom’s regions and supporting comprehensive development efforts, in line with the objectives of “Saudi Vision 2030.”

He noted that, over the past nearly 30 years, the regional councils have contributed to supporting local development and enhancing integration among government entities in the regions, under the supervision of regional emirs. He affirmed that the eighth term will continue this approach by leveraging national talents and contributing to improving the quality of services provided to citizens and residents, while praying to God to grant success to the appointed members and enable them to fulfill their responsibilities in a manner that realizes the leadership’s aspirations and serves development across all regions of the Kingdom.

The regional councils represent one of the key pillars supporting development in the Kingdom’s regions, through the contribution of national talents from among the country’s sons and daughters to supporting the trajectory of local development. This has been the case for nearly 30 years, under the supervision of the Interior Minister and the follow-up of regional emirs, thereby enhancing integration among government entities and achieving comprehensive development objectives across various regions of the Kingdom.

The new composition included the appointment of 215 male and female members to the regional councils, with 20 members each in Riyadh, Makkah Al-Mukarramah, and Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah, and 15 members each in the Eastern Province, Al-Qassim, Asir, Hail, Tabuk, Al-Baha, Northern Borders, Al-Jawf, Najran, and Jazan.
