The Consequences of Injustice!

Every year, as August 2nd passes, it brings with it memories of the Iraqi invasion of our country, which occurred on this very date in 1990.

With this anniversary, we draw numerous lessons and insights. Perhaps foremost among them is the severe consequence of injustice, and that God Almighty dictates to the oppressor; when He seizes them, He does not let them escape. The supplication of the oppressed is answered; God raises it above the clouds and says to it: “By My Might and My Majesty, I will surely grant you victory, even if after a while.”

We witnessed how God Almighty took retribution from the criminal Saddam Hussein, his henchmen, and his followers. Their unity was shattered, his sons were killed during his lifetime, and he was eventually captured in a degrading and humiliating hole, before being executed.

Another key lesson is recognizing the value of the blessing of security, which we often overlook and only remember its importance when we lose it.

The invasion taught us that no homeland is comparable to our own, and that true citizenship means sacrificing the precious and the dear for one’s country. We recall our righteous martyrs who shed their blood and lives for their homeland.

With the anniversary of the invasion, we recognize the importance of heart-felt cohesion and unity of ranks, which is our greatest weapon in facing internal and external threats. God Almighty has advised us with this, saying: “And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided.”

Our memory recalls the primary causes that avert calamity, including repentance. No calamity descends except due to sin, and it is lifted only through repentance. It also includes acts of kindness that protect from evil outcomes, and supplication, for God Almighty is the One who answers the call of the distressed when they call upon Him and removes harm.

We remember, alongside the anniversary of the invasion, the need to live with optimism even in the worst circumstances and to have good thoughts about God, in whose hand is everything and who is capable of all things. He is the One who transforms hardship into ease, distress into comfort, and narrowness into expansiveness: “Indeed, with hardship [will be] ease.”

God Almighty liberated our country after seven months of occupation, an event that had never happened in history for any other country.
