Chelsea signs Henderson

London (AFP) – Chelsea have signed veteran midfielder Jordan Henderson on a two-year deal from their neighbors Brentford, the club’s tenth-place finishers in last season’s English Premier League, announced on Monday.
Henderson said, “Given the size of the club, the manager whom I greatly admire, and the quality of the players, this was a huge opportunity I couldn’t refuse.”
The 36-year-old veteran, who was part of England’s squad at the recent World Cup in North America, added, “I was also very impressed by the owners’ desire for Chelsea to achieve success and move in the right direction.”
He continued, “For me, it’s about giving everything I have every day, on and off the pitch, to help the players around me and the team as much as possible. I’m very excited to get started.”
The end of Henderson’s contract with Brentford was confirmed last week, after it emerged that Chelsea, their London rivals in west London, were interested in signing him.
