Iraqi Prime Minister orders prevention of any threat to neighboring countries

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zoubaidi, in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, ordered the prevention of any transgression or threat emanating from Iraqi territory toward neighboring countries, and directed the formation of a joint security committee to address challenges and establish deterrent mechanisms to prevent the recurrence of such incidents or any potential violations.

The Iraqi Prime Minister’s Media Office stated in a statement on Saturday that al-Zoubaidi’s directives came during his chairing of an emergency meeting to discuss security developments in the region.

The statement clarified that al-Zoubaidi also instructed Iraqi security agencies to enforce the law, enhance security and stability, and fulfill their responsibilities in protecting sovereignty and maintaining good neighborly relations.

The meeting affirmed the readiness of the Armed Forces to thwart any attempt targeting neighboring countries within the regional context, and to prevent the use of Iraqi territory as a launching point or transit route for attacks on fraternal and friendly states, in line with their responsibility to safeguard national sovereignty and respect the principles of good neighborliness and international law.

This comes days after drone attacks carried out by Iraqi militias from within Iraqi territory against targets in Saudi Arabia.
