Nouf Al-Bahbahani: Building Human Capital is the Optimal Path to Environmental Protection
The Acting Director General of the Public Authority for Environmental Affairs, Nouf Bahbahani, affirmed that sustainability has become a fundamental pillar of development and a strategic choice for addressing the environmental challenges facing the world. She noted that the Authority believes environmental protection is not achieved through legislation alone, but by building human capacity, instilling environmental values, and enhancing a culture of responsibility among members of society, especially the youth, who are the nation’s true wealth and the architects of its future.
Bahbahani explained that, on Saturday during the opening ceremony of the National Initiative “Sustainability Camp – Season 2026,” under the slogan “When Technology Meets the Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Cultural Centre,” the Authority places raising environmental awareness and empowering young people at the forefront of its priorities. This is based on the conviction that investing in people is the most sustainable investment, and that preparing a generation equipped with knowledge, awareness, and initiative is the true guarantee for preserving natural resources and achieving sustainable development.
She considered that the initiative embodies the importance of partnership between national institutions, international organizations, and the private sector, and reinforces the concept that sustainability is a shared responsibility. It begins with awareness, translates into action, and reflects positively on society. She added, “We view the Sustainability Camp as a national platform for preparing sustainability ambassadors who carry the message of environmental protection to their families, schools, universities, and communities, transforming knowledge into initiatives and ideas into practices. Real change begins with an aware individual, and its impact then extends to create a more responsible and sustainable society.”
She expressed her gratitude and appreciation to those responsible for the initiative and to its supporting partners, wishing all participants a journey rich in knowledge and creativity. She hoped that this experience would mark the beginning of a series of initiatives and achievements that contribute to protecting our environment, serving our country, and building a more sustainable future for coming generations.
