Ooredoo Kuwait announced that it has received an “A – Achieved Sustainability” rating within the “Climate for Sustainability 2025” index, marking a new achievement that reflects the qualitative progress the company has made in governance practices and environmental and social sustainability. It also underscores the company’s success in transforming sustainability from a set of isolated initiatives into an integrated institutional system linked to its strategy, operations, and operational decisions.
Ooredoo Kuwait was among only six companies to receive an “A” rating, and one of nine companies that achieved advanced ratings of “A” or “AA” out of the 43 companies listed on the Kuwait Stock Exchange included in the assessment. It also became the second telecommunications company to reach advanced ratings in the index, reflecting the maturity of its disclosure approach, the development of its environmental and social practices, and the entrenchment of governance and accountability principles within its business system.
The transition of Ooredoo Kuwait from a “BB” rating to an “A” rating represents a qualitative leap in its journey. The company achieved a jump of 13.25 points, alongside a notable 19-point improvement in the environmental pillar, according to results announced by Climate. This development comes within the 2025 evaluation cycle, which adopted an updated and more comprehensive methodology to measure companies’ performance across environmental, social, and governance pillars.
The company also received the 2025 Sustainability Certificate in recognition of its established sustainability framework, documented core practices, and regular disclosures aligned with the standards adopted by the Climate for Sustainability index.
The “A” rating reflects the existence of an effective and operational sustainability system at Ooredoo Kuwait, supported by stable programs, reliable governance, and regular annual disclosures consistent with international frameworks. It also confirms that the company has made significant progress in integrating sustainability into its institutional operations and linking environmental and social objectives to measurable and trackable performance indicators.
The Climate for Sustainability index is based on evaluating companies’ performance through 14 sub-criteria distributed across the environmental, social, and governance pillars, relying on public disclosures and published sustainability reports. Its methodology aligns with several international frameworks, including the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards, the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) standards, the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) framework, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Commenting on the achievement, Nof Muaid Al-Mashaan, Executive Director of Strategy and Corporate Affairs at Ooredoo Kuwait, said: “Ooredoo Kuwait’s achievement of an ‘A’ rating in the Climate for Sustainability index marks an important milestone in our institutional journey. It reflects the significant progress the company has made over the past years in transforming sustainability into an integrated business approach that touches various aspects of our operations. This rating is not merely an acknowledgment of what has been accomplished, but a direct reflection of a long-term commitment and a collective institutional effort involving all sectors of the company.”
Al-Mushaan added: “At Ooredoo Kuwait, we view sustainability as a corporate and national responsibility, serving as one of the key benchmarks guiding our decision-making, business development, and investments in digital infrastructure and services. We have been keen to transition from isolated initiatives to building an integrated system where sustainability is linked to performance indicators, governance, risk management, resource efficiency, and community development.”
She clarified that the importance of the rating lies in its reliance on documented disclosures, data, and practices, adding, “What we have achieved confirms that our sustainability approach is grounded in action, measurement, and disclosure, rather than slogans. We will continue to enhance the reliability of our data, expand the scope of measurement, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen transparency and accountability, thereby supporting our ambition to reach more advanced levels in the coming years.”
The rating follows the release of Ooredoo Kuwait’s 2025 Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) report, which was made available on the company’s dedicated sustainability webpage alongside previous years’ reports. This enables shareholders, investors, customers, partners, and the general public to review the company’s performance and progress across various sustainability pillars.
The report also provides a comprehensive overview of the company’s strategy and priorities in areas such as environmental protection, energy efficiency, resource management, human capital development, diversity and inclusion, data privacy, cybersecurity, risk management, responsible supply chains, digital innovation, and social value.
In 2025, Ooredoo Kuwait significantly expanded the scope of its environmental emissions measurement. The measurement now covers Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions across its five operating companies in Kuwait, Algeria, Tunisia, Palestine, and the Maldives. Additionally, for the first time, emissions from websites were included under Scope 3.
The company also committed to Ooredoo’s five-year targets for the period 2025–2029, which include improving energy consumption efficiency by 10%, measured in kilowatt-hours per gigabyte. This commitment runs parallel to ongoing network upgrades, investments in more efficient infrastructure, and the development of mechanisms to measure environmental impact.
Ooredoo Kuwait continues to work on enhancing energy and resource efficiency, reducing reliance on paper-based processes, promoting recycling, and ensuring responsible management of electronic waste. The company is also adopting modern technologies that help reduce the environmental footprint of operational activities.
Furthermore, the company invests in digital innovation as a key enabler of sustainability by developing services and solutions that allow customers and business sectors to conduct transactions digitally, thereby improving operational efficiency, reducing paper and resource consumption, and supporting the transition toward a more connected and efficient economy.
On the governance front, Ooredoo Kuwait has continued to reinforce corporate accountability by developing a unified framework for sustainability governance and linking several executive management performance indicators to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) objectives.
In this context, Al-Mushaan stated: “Sustainability, for us, is not limited to reducing environmental impact; it also encompasses building a more empowered, aware, and capable community that can leverage opportunities in the digital economy. Therefore, we continue to support national initiatives, build strategic partnerships with government and private entities as well as civil society organizations, and invest in youth and Kuwaiti talent. We believe that sustainable impact is achieved through the integration and continuity of collective efforts.”
The company is also increasingly focused on developing human capital and providing a work environment based on equal opportunity, diversity, and inclusion, alongside investing in training and professional development to prepare national talent to participate in leading sustainable digital transformation.
Ooredoo Kuwait affirmed that achieving an “A” rating serves as a catalyst for further developing its strategy, rather than marking the end of its journey. The next phase will focus on expanding the scope of emissions measurement, enhancing the quality and reliability of data, linking targets to clear baselines, improving energy efficiency, developing circular economy practices, and strengthening sustainability-related oversight and governance.
The company continues to invest in its networks and digital infrastructure, develop environmentally and socially responsible solutions, and build partnerships that deliver long-term impact, in alignment with the goals of “Kuwait New 2035” and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Concluding her statement, Al-Mashaan said, “We are proud of this achievement and view it as an additional responsibility that drives us to achieve more. Our goal is not merely to maintain the rating, but to build upon it and elevate our practices to higher levels, while continuing to deliver sustainable value to our customers, employees, shareholders, partners, and the Kuwaiti community. We are committed to making Ooredoo Kuwait a model of responsible innovation, good governance, and support for sustainable development.”
The rating reinforces Ooredoo Kuwait’s position as one of the national companies that have successfully translated sustainability commitments into institutional practices and documented disclosures, and underscores its continued efforts to build a more efficient, responsible, and sustainable digital future, in harmony with its brand promise, “Develop Your World.”
