Gaza mediators to meet in Cairo soon to reaffirm commitment to implementing the 'road map'

A senior Egyptian source said that Hamas and Palestinian factions informed mediators of their approval of the roadmap to implement the second phase of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.

On Friday evening, Hamas confirmed reaching an agreement on the disarmament of its weapons, a key step noted in the second phase of the US peace plan aimed at ending the war, adding that it also entails a gradual Israeli withdrawal from the Strip.

However, an Israeli political source stressed at the same time that the army would not undertake “any withdrawal” unless there is “actual” disarmament of the movement’s weapons.
