Trump Reaffirms Washington's Recognition of Morocco's Sovereignty over the Sahara

In a message addressed today, Saturday, to Moroccan King Mohammed VI, Trump said: “We support the Moroccan proposal for autonomy as a serious, credible, and realistic basis, and as the only foundation for reaching a settlement.”

According to a statement from the Royal Diwan, on the occasion of the 27th anniversary of the Accession Day, Trump conveyed his congratulations to the King and to the Moroccan people, emphasizing that “this year, we celebrate 250 years of American history and enduring friendship with Morocco, a relationship built on mutual trust and respect.”

The message continued, “Any other path that would prolong the status quo, which is unacceptable, must end. This conflict must be resolved now, and the United States will continue to push forward to make progress toward achieving this goal.”

According to the Royal Diwan’s statement, Trump considered that “your wise leadership constitutes a pillar of stability. Morocco’s ongoing commitment to working for peace, combating extremism, and protecting the security of Americans and Moroccans, including through its pivotal role in the Abraham Accords, reflects a partnership of great value to the United States. To this end, we will also work together to ensure the security of the Sahel region.”

Trump added: “I have directed my teams to work on enhancing economic and social development with Morocco, including in the Sahara region.”

He affirmed: “Reliable American technology and innovation will continue to serve as partners for Morocco over the next 250 years, across all strategic sectors, particularly energy, artificial intelligence, rare earth minerals, and defense.”
