Firefighters gain control of blaze at St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow

A fire broke out late Thursday night at St. Basil’s Cathedral in Moscow’s Red Square, and it was quickly brought under control, according to the Russian news agency TASS. The cause of the blaze at the Orthodox church, a symbol of the Russian capital with its colorful domes rising above the Kremlin walls, remains unknown. TASS quoted fire services as saying the fire started in the cathedral manager’s office and engulfed 10 square meters. It added that no reports of injuries had been received, noting that 10 fire trucks were dispatched to the scene.
