Amid Outrage, FIFA Announces Cancellation of Plan to Sell World Cup Shares to Investors

FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced in a statement on Saturday evening that the proposed plan to sell special stakes in upcoming World Cup tournaments has been canceled, following angry reactions from fans and football associations around the world.

Infantino said, “After carefully listening to all opinions, it has become clear that the project has created divisions. Regardless of the level of support, it no longer serves the primary objective. Our goal has always been, and will always be, unity and improvement.”

He added, “As a result, we will not proceed with this proposal.”
