Series of Earthquakes Strike Northern Iraq Without Reported Casualties

The General Authority for Meteorology and Seismology, under Iraq’s Ministry of Transport, announced on Friday that Kirkuk province in northern Iraq experienced a series of earthquakes, with no casualties reported.

In a statement, the authority said that seismic observatories recorded a series of tremors in the city of Kirkuk from Thursday evening through Friday morning.

It clarified that one of these earthquakes, measuring 3.9 on the Richter scale, occurred 30 kilometers east of Kirkuk province and was felt by residents of the province.

According to the authority’s statistics, 50 earthquakes were recorded in Iraq and neighboring areas during the past month of June, with no casualties reported.
