NAMA launches the "Khayr Yuroohim" campaign today
Namaa Charity, under the auspices of the Al-Isalah Social Association, launches the “Khair Yuroohum” (Goodness Quenches Their Thirst) campaign today, Friday. The initiative aims to provide more than 574,000 beneficiaries with a new lease on life by implementing 781 water projects in Gaza and several other highly needy countries in Africa and Asia.
Khaled Mubarak Al-Shammari, Head of Programs and Initiatives at Namaa, emphasized that “the campaign is not merely an event for providing water, but a humanitarian message that restores hope to communities exhausted by thirst.” He noted that “millions of people around the world still wake up each morning with a single question: Where can we find water?” He added, “While many enjoy the convenience of having water reach their homes at the touch of a button, thousands of children in Africa face a different reality. Their day begins with walking dozens of kilometers in search of water that may not be safe for drinking. As a result, they are deprived of school seats, and their futures are lost along dusty paths and among water containers.”
Al-Shammari stated that “women bear the brunt of this suffering. There are mothers who walk more than three hours to reach a water source, followed by another three-hour journey back home carrying heavy containers. This scene repeats daily, draining their vitality and preventing them from caring for their families or participating in any activities that could provide them with a more stable life.”
He clarified that “the tragedy does not end with the hardship of accessing water; it extends to the quality of the water itself. Entire villages find nothing but polluted water for drinking, turning diseases into a part of their daily lives. The drop of water that should be a source of life becomes a cause of illness and suffering.”
He pointed out that “children are the most affected by this crisis. Unsafe water causes the spread of serious diseases that could be prevented by providing clean water sources. These diseases claim the lives of large numbers of children in several African countries, presenting a painful humanitarian scene that demands urgent action from those with generous hearts.”
He explained that the “Khair Yuroohum” campaign was launched in response to this suffering, targeting the implementation of 781 water projects. These include artesian wells, surface wells, semi-artesian wells, and water tanks in crisis areas, providing immediate and sustainable solutions tailored to the specific needs of each region.
He added that “the campaign extends to the Gaza Strip, which is suffering from an unprecedented water crisis due to damage to water networks and infrastructure. Thousands of families rely on water tanks to meet their daily needs. The initiative also includes supporting Sudanese refugees in Chad, alongside implementing water projects in Yemen, Niger, Somalia, Benin, and India, thereby achieving a broad humanitarian impact reaching more than half a million beneficiaries.”
Al-Shammari concluded his statement by calling on the people of Kuwait and those with generous hands to participate in the “Khair Yuroohum” campaign. He affirmed that providing water is one of the greatest forms of ongoing charity (Sadaqah Jariyah), citing the Prophet’s saying: “The best charity is providing water.” He emphasized that every contribution, regardless of its size, could be the cause of saving a human life or reviving an entire village, and that the reward for what donors give today will continue to flow, God willing, with every drop of water drunk by a thirsty person.
