Global Charity: Strengthening the Principles of Governance, Transparency, and Accountability
The Islamic World Charity Organization (IWO) concluded the proceedings of its 21st General Assembly and the 75th Board of Directors meeting, along with its subsidiary committees, presided over by Board Chairman Eng. Jamal Al-Nouri. The meetings were attended by board members and General Assembly members based in Kuwait, as well as participants joining via video conferencing from abroad.
The General Assembly meeting was also attended by a high-level delegation from the Ministry of Social Affairs, led by Assistant Undersecretary for the Social Care Sector, Iman Al-Anzi, and including Abdulmohsen Al-Mukhayal, Director of the Charitable Societies and Endowments Administration, along with several ministry officials. This presence underscored the institutional partnership and continuous coordination between the Ministry and the Organization, as well as the support for principles of governance, transparency, and compliance in charitable work.
Board Chairman Eng. Jamal Al-Nouri opened the sessions by emphasizing that their convening takes place amid delicate regional conditions and exceptional security challenges facing the area, accompanied by rapid developments and malicious attacks targeting its security and stability. These actions constitute a blatant violation of international law and a threat to the security and safety of peoples.
Al-Nouri stressed that the General Assembly and Board of Directors meetings represent an important milestone for reinforcing the principles of governance, transparency, and accountability, reviewing the Organization’s achievements during the past period, and discussing its future directions to enhance its humanitarian and developmental mission, while consolidating its role in serving the most needy communities.
He clarified that the Organization has addressed the regulatory controls witnessed by the charitable sector environment in Kuwait with a positive spirit and institutional responsibility, leveraging its expertise and capabilities to continue its humanitarian mission efficiently and competently, while fully complying with governance, transparency, and compliance requirements.
He noted that the Organization, in coordination with the Ministry of Social Affairs, is completing the regulatory procedures related to developing its bylaws, in implementation of the Cabinet’s decision to transfer its supervision to the Ministry. He affirmed that these procedures are proceeding in a spirit of cooperation and understanding, ensuring alignment of the bylaws with regulatory requirements and guaranteeing the continuity and regularity of the Organization’s operations during the transitional phase.
Al-Nouri added that the Organization has maintained its active presence and leading position in the fields of charitable and humanitarian work, relying on the efforts of its Board of Directors, executive management, and staff, as well as the trust it enjoys among donors and partners. This has strengthened the continuity of its operations, enhanced its institutional performance efficiency, and consolidated its status as one of the leading humanitarian institutions.
