Sisi: Competent authorities have launched investigations to ascertain the details and circumstances of the Damietta incident
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi held a telephone conversation today with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. The official spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, stated that the Spanish Prime Minister opened the call by expressing his country’s condemnation of the incident involving two ships at the Port of Damietta, which resulted from a drone attack, affirming Spain’s solidarity with Egypt, both government and people, in this difficult moment.
He noted that President el-Sisi clarified that relevant authorities are conducting investigations to ascertain the details and circumstances of the incident, highlighting the seriousness of the escalation currently witnessed in the region and emphasizing the necessity for Egypt, Spain, Europe, and the international community to unite in halting this escalation. The official spokesperson added that the call also addressed recent developments in regional affairs, where Egyptian efforts aimed at restoring stability in the region were reviewed.
The Spanish Prime Minister expressed his deep appreciation for these efforts, and the importance of a peaceful settlement of conflicts to preserve peace and security in the Middle East was reaffirmed.
In this context, the Spanish Prime Minister stressed the necessity for the United Nations to play its role in stopping the ongoing war, while also emphasizing the importance of reaching a just solution to the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution. During the call, President el-Sisi also reaffirmed Egypt’s full solidarity with Spain regarding the recent fires that affected some Spanish regions, expressing sincere condolences for the victims of this crisis and wishing a speedy recovery for the injured.
He affirmed Egypt’s readiness to provide all forms of support to assist the Spanish side in confronting these circumstances, expressing his confidence in Spain’s ability to overcome them, and wishing it continued prosperity and well-being.
In a separate context, President el-Sisi congratulated the Spanish Prime Minister on the Spanish national football team’s victory in the FIFA World Cup. The official spokesperson noted that the Spanish Prime Minister expressed his deep appreciation for the President’s initiative to call and convey Egypt’s message of support during this delicate moment for his country, reaffirming the depth of the historic bilateral relations between Egypt and Spain at both official and popular levels.
He expressed his aspiration to continue working towards enhancing relations and cooperation between the two countries across various political and economic fields.
