Ministry of Education Continues Preparations for the New Academic Year: 10 Engineering Teams Supervise Maintenance of 949 Government Schools
In the context of its intensive preparations to welcome the 2026/2027 academic year, the Ministry of Education continues to implement its comprehensive plan to enhance the readiness of public schools. This is being achieved by monitoring maintenance and rehabilitation works across various educational districts, ensuring the provision of a safe and stimulating educational environment for teaching, administrative staff, and students upon the start of the new academic year. These efforts are carried out in accordance with the directives of His Excellency the Minister of Education, Engineer Sayed Jalal Al-Tabatabai, aimed at elevating the quality of the school environment and strengthening the efficiency of educational infrastructure.
In this regard, the Assistant Undersecretary for Administrative, Financial, and Technical Affairs, Engineer Mohammed Al-Khalidi, held an extensive meeting on the Ministry of Education’s stage with the engineering teams formed to monitor preparations for the new academic year. The meeting reviewed the progress of maintenance works in public schools, assessed completion rates, and discussed key observations and challenges facing implementation, along with mechanisms to address them. This ensures adherence to the approved timeline and the completion of all works before the start of the academic year.
The meeting addressed the efforts of the General Administration of Educational Facilities and Projects, which has formed ten specialized engineering teams to supervise maintenance works and monitor their implementation in the 949 public schools. This enhances the efficiency of field supervision and ensures that works are executed according to the highest quality standards.
Furthermore, the progress of approximately 100 engineers, who continue to provide field supervision over civil, electrical maintenance, and air conditioning system repairs, was monitored. Each engineer supervises an average of ten schools. This is part of a timeline targeting the completion of all works by the end of August. Maintenance contracts remain active across all educational districts to ensure rapid response to reports and maintain the readiness of educational facilities.
For his part, Assistant Undersecretary for Administrative, Financial, and Technical Affairs Mohammed Al-Khalidi emphasized that preparations for the new academic year represent a national responsibility requiring the integration of efforts and continuous coordination among all relevant parties. He stressed the importance of periodic follow-up, identifying and addressing challenges promptly, and continuously monitoring performance indicators to ensure works are executed according to specified schedules and to prepare a safe and stimulating educational environment for staff and students.
Al-Khalidi added that the Ministry is keen on intensifying field visits and strengthening oversight of maintenance implementation, ensuring compliance with approved technical specifications. This aims to achieve the highest levels of readiness before the start of the academic year and to ensure the sustained efficiency of educational facilities across all districts.
He confirmed that field supervision activities will continue in the coming period at an intensive pace, with periodic evaluation of completion rates and immediate handling of any emerging observations. This ensures the completion of all works according to the approved timeline, reflecting the Ministry’s commitment to providing a comprehensive school environment that supports the quality of the educational process from the first day of the academic year.
Al-Khalidi called for the importance of continuing coordination among work teams and enhancing field supervision, as well as adhering to the implementation of maintenance works according to approved plans and schedules. This aims to achieve the highest standards of quality and efficiency in execution.
He further emphasized that the upcoming phase requires doubling efforts and accelerating the pace of completion to ensure the readiness of all schools on time. This includes continuing to provide technical and engineering support to guarantee the maintenance of the efficiency and sustainability of educational facilities.
