Environment Public Authority: Importance of Preserving Kuwait’s Natural Components

Dr. Wijdan Al-Aqab, President of the Kuwait Association for the Protection of Nature, told KUNA on the occasion of World Nature Conservation Day, observed annually on July 28, that the association seeks through this celebration to raise awareness of Kuwait’s nature and its diverse elements.

She added that the association is a member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and chairs the IUCN National Committee in the country, noting that the committee works to coordinate national efforts among relevant authorities to protect and conserve biodiversity.

On another note, the Kuwait Association for the Protection of Nature highlighted the importance of preparing and training a second cohort of Kuwaiti negotiators from various state entities involved in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

Al-Aqab affirmed that the first training course for qualifying national negotiators under the UNFCCC, organized by the Public Authority for Environmental Affairs at the Kuwait Institute for Diplomatic Studies, lays the foundation for transferring expertise to a second generation of young Kuwaiti negotiators.

She commended the commitment of State Minister for Development and Sustainability Dr. Reem Al-Faleh and Director General of the Public Authority for Environmental Affairs, Nawaf Bahbahani, to advancing national environmental cadres toward achieving the highest standards of quality and efficiency. She further praised the organizational efforts of the Kuwait Institute for Diplomatic Studies in hosting the course under the gracious patronage of the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
