Rodri Undergoes Surgery

The winner of the 2024 Ballon d’Or, who was named the best player at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America after leading Spain to the title this month, has been suffering from back pain before ultimately deciding to undergo surgery.

The club stated in a press release: “The midfielder had been experiencing back pain for some time, but he has now undergone surgery to address the issue and will begin a short rehabilitation period thereafter.”

The club did not specify a return date for Rodri, but British media reported that he may miss the start of the upcoming Premier League season, which begins on August 21.

Rodri, 30, has one year remaining on his contract with Manchester City. He has previously endured several serious knee injuries during his career. Rumors have also circulated about a potential transfer to Spanish club Real Madrid.
