Rayo Vallecano Without a Stadium

Madrid – AFP – Rayo Vallecano finds itself without a stadium less than three weeks before the start of the Spanish football league, after the regional government of Madrid ordered urgent repair works for safety reasons.

The regional authorities have revoked the club’s right to use the stadium until the renovation works, which could last several months according to local media, are completed. Rayo Vallecano, which reached the final of the Conference League last season, is affected by the decision.

Mariano de Paco Serrano, the Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Sports in the Madrid regional government, told journalists that the regional government “will act urgently to ensure the safety of the Vallecas stadium.”

Rayo, a club located in southeast Madrid, prides itself on its working-class identity. Its stadium, which has a capacity of around 15,000 spectators, is known for being old and dilapidated, failing to meet the standards of modern football.

In its statement, the regional government cited “general deterioration” of the facilities, raising concerns about public safety and hygiene.

Pending the completion of the renovation works, Rayo Vallecano will need to find a solution to host its home matches.

For his part, Javier Tebas, president of the Spanish League, confirmed that the club has an alternative stadium, without specifying which one.

Rayo Vallecano will begin the 2026-2027 Spanish league season with an away match against Sevilla on August 15, followed by a home game against Alavés on the 20th.
