Kukurya fulfills promise to tattoo 'De la Fuente'

Madrid – AFP – Full-back Marc Cucurella fulfilled a promise he made before Spain’s victory at the 2026 FIFA World Cup on July 19, revealing a new tattoo on his arm depicting national team coach Luis de la Fuente.

The left-back had pledged at the start of the summer to get a tattoo of the coach if Spain won the title, a vow realized after their 1-0 final victory over Argentina in the match held in East Rutherford, near New York.

Cucurella, who moved this summer from English club Chelsea to Spanish capital giants Real Madrid, posted an image of the new tattoo on social media, accompanied by the caption “Promise kept.”

The tattoo shows De la Fuente wearing a formal suit and holding the World Cup trophy, which the Spanish team lifted for the second time in their history, following their first triumph 16 years ago at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

His national team teammate Mikel Merino commented “Historic” on the post, while Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz described the tattoo as “amazing.”

De la Fuente said that the match helped provide the team with motivation on their path to the title.

The 65-year-old manager took charge of the Spanish national team in 2022, succeeding Luis Enrique, and led “La Roja” to win the 2024 UEFA European Championship and the 2023 UEFA Nations League, before achieving the most significant triumph at the North American World Cup finals.
