A Medical Trip... Within the Country

My right eyelid is swollen, and my right eye is shedding tears, one by one, because the tears are flowing from a single eye. My eye has begun to burn, and my vision is weakening, and I do not know why.

I headed to the Sea Eye Hospital, where the first bureaucratic hurdle I faced was a room next to the emergency entrance, where eyes were examined before patients could see the doctor.

A young doctor received me in that room; we were of the same age group. He informed me of the diagnosis: a parasitic fatty cyst that had sprouted on my eyelid and disrupted my peace.

The solution did not require seeing the specialist doctor, who was located inside, in that narrow corridor filled with eye doctors.

The young man gave me an ointment that was of no use. I was instructed to apply it to the inside of my eyelid before sleeping and to compress my eyelid four times with a warm compress.

I entered the hospital, went to reception, and then to the examination room, but this time there was no doctor! Only a nurse! A surprise, isn’t it?

I also asked him about my weakened vision. He said the same thing: everything happens in the clinic.

I felt both happy and sad at the same time! Happy to have secured an appointment, but sad about the delay; my appointment was scheduled 26 days later.

This is an appointment for an examination, and I do not know when the surgery will be scheduled. But do not worry: at the first clinic, I requested comprehensive tests to confirm the diagnosis, and the examination is at another clinic, a third clinic, dear and different from the Eye Clinic (the second one).

I do not know why there are all these procedures and referrals that serve no purpose other than delaying treatment. God knows when I will be able to remove this cursed cyst from my eye.

I do not know what the point is of having a general doctor examine me, followed by an eye specialist. God knows they will re-examine me before the surgery. My intuition tells me they will examine me a fourth time before I undergo the operation.
