Brookfield raises $2 billion for Middle East investment fund

Arabic - Brookfield announced the first close of its new Brookfield Middle East Partners private equity fund, with an initial anchor investment from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF).

The new fund raised approximately $2 billion (around SAR 7.5 billion) from strategic investors, including several regional and international investment institutions. Its activities will focus on investing in companies within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the broader Middle East region.

BMEP will leverage Brookfield’s expertise through its offices in Riyadh and its extensive global network, targeting opportunities such as full acquisitions, minority stakes, and other investment opportunities across diverse sectors, including financial services, business services, retail, industrials, technology, and healthcare.

The fund will prioritize the Middle East, particularly high-growth markets and opportunities in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, with at least 50% of its capital allocated to the Saudi market. This aligns with PIF’s efforts to continue attracting investments and capital to the Kingdom.

PIF’s investment in BMEP is part of its strategy to maximize returns and achieve long-term value creation through global partnerships. These partnerships serve as a key tool for PIF to capitalize on investment opportunities, enhance economic development, and foster the growth of local capabilities and expertise.

The new investment aligns with PIF’s strategy to continue attracting capital and investors, strengthen and diversify the Saudi financial market, and collaborate with global investors in promising investment opportunities. It also aims to empower financial institutions, expand financing options for local companies, and introduce new investment products.

Yousef Al-Humaid, Deputy Governor and Head of Investments for the Middle East and North Africa at PIF, said: “The Fund continues to reinforce the Kingdom’s position as a global investment hub by deepening its relationships with international partners to support product innovation and provide investors with greater access to opportunities in the Saudi market. Our partnership with Brookfield aims to strengthen the role of international private equity in the region, attract global capital to the Kingdom, accelerate deal flow, and leverage world-class expertise to develop the local investment ecosystem.”
