Ramadan Khasrawi to "Al-Rai": Thank you to the family of martyr Wafaa Al-Amir... for her trust in me

Amid preparations for filming the cinematic movie “Wafa,” which chronicles the life of the heroic martyr Wafa Al-Ghanim, artist, writer, and director Ramadan Khasrawi affirmed that the “Wafa” project is an extension of his interest in national works that highlight figures and events that have left a mark on Kuwait’s history. He expressed his hope that the project would succeed in presenting the martyr’s biography in a manner befitting her status, and contribute to introducing her story and its eternal national and human values to new generations.
Khasrawi told “Al-Rai” that he is both the writer and director of the project, and that actress Hessa Al-Nabhani will portray the character of martyr Wafa Al-Ghanim. He pointed out the key stars slated for leading roles, including actor Khaled Amin, while producer and media personality Abdulrahman Al-Din will serve as the general supervisor of the entire production. “He will handle all operations that help the team execute the project in the best possible way, making it one of the largest artistic productions by Kuwait Film,” he explained.
He added, “Preparations for the project took three years of continuous work in collaboration with the martyr’s family, particularly her sister Ghaida Al-Ghanim. This period witnessed numerous meetings, research sessions, documentation efforts, and information gathering, with the aim of producing a work that touches upon the truth and reflects the details of the martyr’s life in the manner she deserves.”
Khasrawi further stated, “We obtained exclusive rights from the martyr’s family to implement the project, which is now in the final stages of preparation ahead of the start of filming. This step was essential to ensure that the work is presented according to a vision based on accurate information and documented testimonies, thereby preserving the privacy of the story and reflecting its human and national dimensions.”
When asked about the reason for choosing Hessa Al-Nabhani to portray the character, he replied, “The choice came after careful study. There were several reasons that led us to this selection, the most prominent of which is the significant physical resemblance between her and the martyr, as well as Al-Nabhani’s talent, artistic experience, and acting capabilities that enable her to portray the character as required. Furthermore, she possesses a Kuwaiti identity that allows her to embody the character with all its cultural and social dimensions.”
Regarding the goal of presenting the work in a professional manner, Khasrawi noted, “We will engage an international team to participate in several artistic tasks, such as cinematography, editing, and other technical aspects, in order to elevate the artistic and production quality of the work and present it according to professional standards that keep pace with the development witnessed by the artistic production industry globally.”
He also hinted that filming would take place in Kuwait and several international locations, serving the artistic vision of the project and the requirements of the events, and contributing to a richer and more realistic visual treatment to enhance the project’s ability to convey its message to the audience.
Concluding his statement, Khasrawi directed his thanks to the martyr’s family for the trust they placed in him, saying, “Thank you for your trust and insistence that I implement this work and take on the tasks of writing and directing. This is a great trust and responsibility placed in my hands, especially since the work deals with the biography of a national figure who holds a prominent place in Kuwaiti memory.”
