Al-Adan Hospital Successfully Treats Rare Case of Bile Duct Obstruction Without Surgery

The Ministry of Health announced that a medical team at Al-Adan Hospital successfully treated a Kuwaiti woman in her forties who was suffering from a blockage in the bile ducts, which was found to be caused by an extremely rare congenital anatomical anomaly.

The ministry clarified that the team, led by Dr. Youssef Al-Tawalla, performed an advanced therapeutic intervention using cholangiopancreatography, which revealed that the bile duct opening was located inside the stomach instead of its normal position in the duodenum, representing a rare congenital anatomical variation.

It added that the team managed to carry out the treatment using advanced therapeutic endoscopy and interventional radiology, without the need for surgical intervention, an achievement that reflects the high level of competence and expertise possessed by the Ministry’s medical staff.

The ministry confirmed that the patient was discharged in good health after her condition improved and liver function and enzyme levels returned to normal, noting that 120 precise endoscopic procedures of the liver and bile ducts had been performed since the beginning of 2026.
