“Burqan” Maintains Inclusion in the “FTSE4Good” Index

Burgan Bank announced its continued inclusion in the FTSE4Good Index Series following the periodic review conducted by global index and data provider FTSE Russell in June 2026.

Developed by FTSE Russell, the FTSE4Good Index Series aims to measure the performance of companies demonstrating strong Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices. The series is endorsed by a broad range of investment institutions to create and evaluate responsible investment funds and other investment products.

The index’s assessment is based on performance across key pillars, including corporate governance, health and safety, anti-corruption, and climate change, requiring targeted companies to meet rigorous and diverse ESG standards.

Burgan Bank’s continued inclusion in this index reflects the bank’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its ESG framework, enhance transparency and disclosure levels, and integrate sustainability standards into its overall strategy, operational processes, risk management approach, and decision-making mechanisms.

Commenting on this achievement, Fadel Abdullah, CEO of Burgan Bank Kuwait, stated, “Maintaining our position within the FTSE4Good Index Series embodies the continuous progress we are making in developing our ESG practices and governance, enhancing transparency, and embedding sustainability across all pillars of our business. Sustainability at Burgan Bank is an integral part of our long-term strategy and serves as the primary driver of how we deliver sustainable impact for our clients, employees, community, and all stakeholders.”

The bank reaffirmed its commitment to advancing its ESG agenda in line with global best practices, while simultaneously supporting sustained growth and creating enduring long-term value.

Over the past years, Burgan Bank has made significant progress in integrating environmental standards into its core business activities, particularly in lending and risk management processes. Approximately 70% of its corporate credit portfolio has undergone rigorous review to identify ESG-related risks and opportunities, underscoring its ongoing focus on responsible financing and the development of risk measurement tools.

Furthermore, the bank has contributed to economic development by providing financing worth 100 million Kuwaiti Dinars to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and allocating 23.5 million Dinars to sustainability-focused projects in 2025. These efforts help align the bank’s portfolio with global sustainability trends, reinforcing its approach to responsible lending.

Environmental responsibility remains a cornerstone of Burgan Bank’s ESG agenda, with increasing emphasis on financing low-carbon, resource-efficient activities, expanding greenhouse gas monitoring, and developing scientific pathways for carbon reduction. Concurrently, through the development of waste management practices, the bank has successfully maintained its LEED Gold certification for the operations and maintenance of its headquarters building.

On the social front, the bank reinforced its commitment to its customers, employees, and society at large, with these efforts culminating in the acquisition of the “Great Place to Work®” certification and the launch of initiatives focused on employee safety and mental well-being, as well as the enhancement of work flexibility. The bank’s emphasis on diversity and inclusion was further reflected in a range of programs aimed at women’s empowerment and female entrepreneurship throughout the year.
