35 killed and 30 injured in a road accident on the Damascus-Deir ez-Zor highway

Syrian state television announced on Saturday that 35 people were killed and 30 others injured in a traffic accident on the Damascus–Deir ez-Zor highway. The Syrian Ministry of Defense dispatched several helicopters to participate in medical evacuation operations, transporting the injured and victims to the Homs Military Hospital.

The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that the accident resulted from a collision between a bus carrying members of the Internal Security Forces and a civilian bus in the area between Sukhnah and Palmyra, in eastern Homs countryside.

The Syrian Civil Defense, under the Ministry of Emergency Affairs and Disaster Management, stated via its Telegram channel that its teams moved from the Palmyra center, requesting support from Deir ez-Zor centers to respond to the incident. They managed to control the fire that broke out as a result of the collision between the two buses.

The Civil Defense emphasized that its teams continued their response at the accident site, providing first aid to the injured and transporting them to Palmyra Hospital for necessary treatment, in addition to transporting the victims’ bodies in coordination with relevant authorities, securing the site, and addressing the aftermath of the incident.
