Fuel Tanker Reveals Attempt to Smuggle Cigarettes via Al-Nuwaybiba Border Crossing

Officials at the Al-Nuwaybiba border crossing of the General Customs Authority succeeded in thwarting an attempt to smuggle a quantity of cigarettes out of the country by concealing them inside a vehicle’s fuel tank.
The General Customs Authority stated in a statement on Friday that “customs officers at the Al-Nuwaybiba border crossing, thanks to their vigilance and field efforts in customs inspection and supervision, managed to thwart an attempt to smuggle a quantity of cigarettes during an effort to export them from the country.”
It clarified that “the seizure came after subjecting one of the vehicles to thorough customs inspection procedures, which resulted in the discovery of 43 cartons and 8 packs of cigarettes tightly concealed inside the fuel tank (gas tank) and the gear shift trim, in areas specially prepared to hide the contraband, confirming that the vehicle was prepared for smuggling purposes.”
