Treachery... Reaching the Borders
Iran’s treacherous hand has not stopped at the sea; it has extended to the borders. From the targeting of the Kuwaiti oil tanker “Kivan” in the Strait of Hormuz days ago, to repeated attacks on vital facilities, culminating in the targeting of the Abdali border crossing on Thursday, Iranian aggression continues to expand its scope of attacks against Kuwait. This unfolds amid heightened field vigilance by the nation’s defenders, alongside a continuing wave of Arab and regional condemnations.
The official spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, Colonel Saud Al-Atwan, announced that the Abdali border crossing was repeatedly targeted by hostile drones on Thursday evening, resulting in material damage but no reported human casualties. He had previously announced that the crossing had been attacked by hostile drones earlier in the day.
For his part, the official spokesperson for the General Fire Force, Brigadier General Mohammed Al-Gharib, stated that firefighting teams at the Sabhiya and Abdali centers managed to control the fire that broke out at the Abdali crossing following the initial attack, confirming that no human casualties were recorded.
For its part, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed Kuwait’s strongest condemnation and rejection of the continued wicked aggression launched by Iran and its proxies against the country, which targeted the Abdali border crossing through a number of attacks by hostile drones. The ministry emphasized that persisting in these blatant and repeated attacks constitutes a serious escalation and a direct threat to regional security and stability, reflecting a systematic hostile approach that is neither justifiable nor acceptable.
The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and Jordan have unified their stance in confronting Iranian aggression, affirming that the continuous attacks on their territories and civilian infrastructure represent a blatant violation of international law and UN Security Council Resolution 2817. They have reaffirmed their right to self-defense, while simultaneously calling on the Security Council to adopt an urgent resolution to halt Iranian attacks and hold Tehran accountable.
The seven countries expressed their “unified common position in condemning the wicked aggression launched by Iran and its proxies against their territories,” emphasizing that “the continuous attacks constitute acts of explicit aggression that violate the UN Charter and international law, and pose a threat to international peace and security.”
The seven countries affirmed “their inherent right to self-defense, individually or collectively, in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter, and to take all necessary legal measures to protect their sovereignty, territories, citizens, commercial vessels, and vital infrastructure against these ongoing attacks.”
They called on the UN Security Council “to issue an urgent resolution demanding the immediate cessation of Iranian attacks, recognizing the right of affected states to self-defense, and to exercise its legal authority to consider adopting additional measures if these systematic and wicked attacks do not stop.”
