Current fishing seasons will revitalize the market and prices will decline

Kuwait Fishermen’s Union President Abdullah Al-Sarheed affirmed that the sequential start of fishing seasons during the current period will boost the supply of fish and shrimp in the local market, positively reflecting on price stability and a subsequent decline in the coming period.

Al-Sarheed told “Al-Rai” that “the midam fish fishing season began on July 1, while the zubaidi fish fishing season started on July 16. The shrimp fishing season is scheduled to begin on August 1 next year,” adding that “these seasons will provide large quantities of seafood products to consumers.”

He added that “the Fishermen’s Union is committed to providing all types of fish to citizens and residents,” emphasizing that “local fishing is supported by imports, whether through the Union or via import companies, ensuring the continued availability of various species in the markets.”

He clarified that “the fish market is currently experiencing an abundance of supply, with all types of fish available at sales stalls, reflecting stable supplies and the fulfillment of consumers’ needs.”

Al-Sarheed predicted that August and September would witness a significant increase in the production of shrimp, midam, and zubaidi fish, noting that the increased quantities on offer would contribute to lowering prices. He called on consumers to take advantage of the fishing seasons, which represent some of the best periods for purchasing fresh fish and shrimp.
