Global Interest in Kuwait's Bonds

Kuwait raised $6 billion from the international bond market on Wednesday, amid strong demand that helped lower borrowing costs compared to indicative prices, signaling sustained investor appetite for Kuwaiti sovereign debt.

Bloomberg reported that Kuwait issued $3 billion in three-year bonds, and $1.5 billion each in five- and ten-year bonds, with total demand for the issuance reaching approximately $18 billion. It noted that Kuwait appointed global banks, including Goldman Sachs and Citigroup, as international coordinators for the offering.

This marks the first time Kuwait has borrowed from public international debt markets since October 2025, when it raised $11.25 billion and attracted subscription requests nearing $30 billion from investors, reflecting investor confidence in the soundness of the state’s public finances.

The strong demand for the bonds reflects Kuwait’s ability to access global debt markets on competitive terms, with investor confidence in the country’s creditworthiness and financial stability remaining intact, even amid rising geopolitical risks and security pressures in the region.

This move aligns with Kuwait’s strategy to diversify its financing instruments and strengthen its presence in global debt markets, while leveraging various financing tools to fund budgetary needs and manage public liquidity.
