Saliba avoids back surgery

William Saliba’s (25) journey with the French national team at the 2026 World Cup ended after he suffered an injury during the semi-final match against Spain, which his country lost 2-0. He had been experiencing severe back pain and confirmed that he could no longer endure it.

Last week, the French newspaper L’Equipe reported that surgery was no longer the preferred option. The newspaper now confirms that Saliba will not undergo the procedure.

Following a series of consultations with Arsenal club officials, the club decided to rely on treatment and rehabilitation rather than surgical intervention.

Nevertheless, Saliba will be sidelined for an extended period to rest and recover. L’Equipe has not specified a return date for his participation with Mikel Arteta’s team, as this will depend on his response to treatment and his sense of improvement. However, his absence is expected to last several months.
