For the health of your hearts, consume these foods

Cardiology specialists emphasize that diet is one of the most significant factors influencing long-term cardiovascular health, as simple and consistent dietary choices can lower blood pressure, improve cholesterol levels, and help maintain a healthy weight, thereby substantially reducing the risk of heart disease.
According to data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), nearly half of American adults—approximately 48 percent—suffer from high blood pressure, a leading risk factor for heart disease and stroke. This makes dietary management a public health priority that extends beyond patients alone. The American Heart Association recommends that daily sodium intake not exceed 2,300 milligrams, with a preference for approaching lower limits whenever possible.
Among the top foods recommended by heart specialists to promote cardiovascular health are:
• Fatty fish, such as salmon, mackerel, and sardines, which are rich in omega-3 fatty acids that help lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of arrhythmias. The American Heart Association recommends consuming these fish at least twice a week.
Experts noted that adopting an integrated dietary pattern, such as the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet or the Mediterranean diet, offers greater benefits than focusing on a single food in isolation. They stressed the importance of simultaneously reducing saturated fats, processed red meats, and added sugars while incorporating these beneficial foods. They advised that dietary modifications should be part of a comprehensive plan that also includes regular physical activity and periodic follow-ups with a physician, particularly for individuals with existing risk factors or a family history of heart disease.
