Majed Al-Baloushi to Al-Rai: A unique experience... 'When no one is watching'
Al-Balushi, in a special statement to “Al-Rai,” spoke about his artistic experience, beginning by referring to his latest work, the series “When No One Is Watching Us,” directed by Mohamed Samir and written by Nour Al-Badri.
He said: “The work has generated beautiful resonance, and I consider it a distinctive experience for me as an actor. Although I participate as a guest star, the character is directly linked to the main dramatic arc.”
“Badr is a young man who suffers abuse at the hands of his stepfather. Although my participation was as a guest star, the character is pivotal and influential in the progression of events.”
He also touched upon his experience in the play “Street Cats,” and his role within the directing team, saying: “From the outset, we worked with a spirit of love and brotherhood. All viewpoints were valued and respected, as we were keen on enjoying the work, because that reflects on the audience, and we all share in the success.”
He noted that this is his third experience as an assistant director with director Mohamed Jamal Al-Shatti, clarifying: “I previously collaborated with him on the play ‘Please Do Not Disturb,’ and then joined him on ‘Group’ by Abdulaziz Al-Nassar through the play ‘Children of Satan.’”
When asked which field is closer to his heart, acting or directing, he replied: “I love both fields equally and am equally dedicated to them. I cannot prefer one over the other.”
Regarding his limited screen presence despite his artistic capabilities, particularly in portraying complex roles, whether in academic theater or television drama, Al-Balushi responded: “It depends on the nature of opportunities. Some seek me as an assistant director, while others see me as an actor. I am not capricious in my choices, but I hope to establish myself in both fields, with my personal inclination toward academic theater. I have also appeared on television, and I am always waiting for the right opportunity.”
When asked about the characters he hopes to portray in the future, Al-Balushi expressed his preference for complex roles, wishing to embody the character of a police officer, highlighting his private and professional life, and how he balances between the two.
