Aston Villa to be without Onana for 9 months

Lyon - AFP - Belgian international midfielder Amadou Onana underwent surgery in the French city of Lyon to treat a tear in the anterior cruciate ligament of his right knee, which he sustained during the 2026 World Cup in North America, and will consequently be sidelined from his English club Aston Villa for nine months, according to medical sources.
Onana suffered the anterior cruciate ligament tear 20 minutes into his country’s match against the United States, the host nation alongside Mexico and Canada, in the World Cup round of 16 (4-1).
Onana’s injury caused great distress among his teammates, who rushed to console the outstanding midfielder immediately after the final whistle of the match against the United States.
