Foreign Ministry hands Iranian ambassador a protest note over the targeting of the Kuwaiti tanker Kivan

Al-Musha’an:

- The blatant aggression occurs amid the escalation of Iran’s unjustified campaign of aggression against Kuwait.

- A flagrant violation of Kuwait’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and interests, and a threat to international security and freedom of navigation.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, represented by Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador Hamad Al-Musha’an, summoned Iranian Ambassador to Kuwait Mohammad Toutounji on Tuesday, delivering a note of protest regarding Iran’s targeting of the Kuwaiti tanker “Kivan” on Monday evening as it transited the Strait of Hormuz, which resulted in injuries to several members of its crew.

Ambassador Al-Musha’an, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasized that this blatant aggression takes place against the backdrop of the escalation of Iran’s unjustified campaign against Kuwait since February 28, 2026, including inflammatory and provocative statements issued by the Iranian side. He stated that this constitutes a flagrant violation of Kuwait’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and interests, as well as a threat to international security and freedom of navigation, and a breach of international law, the UN Charter, and UN Security Council Resolution 2817 of 2026.

He reiterated Kuwait’s demand for Iran to immediately halt its unlawful attacks, stressing Kuwait’s right to take necessary measures, and placed full responsibility for this aggression and Iran’s continued hostility toward Kuwait on Iran.
