Kukouria: We did an amazing job

East Rutherford – AFP – Marc Cucurella praised the “amazing” defense of the Spanish national team after they secured their second World Cup title, defeating Argentina 1-0 after extra time.

Under manager Luis de la Fuente, Spain conceded just one goal across their eight matches in the tournament, the fewest ever by a team that went on to win the World Cup.

Belgium was the only side to score against Spain, doing so in the quarter-finals.

Cucurella, who recently transferred from English club Chelsea to Spanish side Real Madrid, said: “When you don’t concede goals, I think winning becomes much easier.”

He added: “We did an amazing job in that regard throughout the tournament. It wasn’t just the defenders and the goalkeeper; I believe it’s a collective responsibility. In the end, it’s about everyone making sacrifices. We attack together and we defend together. That’s one of the keys to this team.”
