World Cup 2026: Fernandez sixth 'expelled'

Paris (AFP) – Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez has joined the list of players sent off in FIFA World Cup final matches.

Fernandez’s red card against Spain also handed his country an unwelcome record, making Argentina the nation with the most red cards in World Cup final history, with three dismissals out of six finals.

The other five players are: Pedro Monzon and Gustavo Dezotti (Argentina) in 1990 against Germany, Marcel Desailly (France) in 1998 against Brazil, Zinedine Zidane (France) in 2006 against Italy, and John Heitinga (Netherlands) in 2010 against Spain.
