Kuwait condemns repeated targeting of vital facilities: Iran bears full responsibility for the repercussions and consequences

Amid the continued treacherous aggression against Kuwait, the despicable Iranian attacks persist in targeting vital civilian facilities. For the second consecutive day, these assaults hit the power station and water desalination plant, while the Armed Forces continued to counter hostile drones and ballistic missiles.
Spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, Colonel Saud Al-Atwan, stated that the Armed Forces had detected hostile ballistic missiles and drones within Kuwaiti airspace since dawn on Sunday, which were intercepted and neutralized. He noted that the ongoing despicable Iranian aggression continues to target civilian and vital facilities in the country, with attacks hitting installations belonging to the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, resulting in fires and severe damage to several of its vital facilities.
Al-Atwan emphasized that the Armed Forces remain committed to carrying out their duties with high efficiency, under conditions of continuous readiness and constant preparedness, taking all necessary measures to protect the nation’s sovereignty and safeguard its security and stability, in coordination with relevant authorities, to ensure the safety of citizens and residents.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed Kuwait’s strongest condemnation and rejection of the despicable Iranian aggression that occurred yesterday, which again targeted a power station and water desalination plant, constituting a direct attack on a vital civilian facility. In a statement issued yesterday, the Ministry affirmed that “the repeated deliberate targeting of vital and civilian facilities reflects a systematic aggressive approach, representing a highly dangerous escalation and a serious threat to the safety and security of civilians, and constituting a blatant violation of international law, international humanitarian law, the UN Charter, and Security Council Resolution 2817.” It held Iran fully responsible, legally and morally, for these serious attacks and their ensuing repercussions and consequences. The Ministry stressed that “Kuwait reserves its full right to take all necessary measures to safeguard its security and defend its territory and vital facilities against any aggression or threat, based on its inherent right to self-defense, in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter and the rules of international law.”
The Ministry also expressed strong condemnation and rejection of the despicable Iranian attacks targeting Bahrain and Jordan, reaffirming Kuwait’s full solidarity with the two brotherly countries.
For its part, the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy announced that the power station and water desalination plant were attacked yesterday, Sunday, for the second time within two days, as a result of the despicable Iranian aggression against Kuwait, which caused fires in some of the plant’s facilities.
In a statement, the Ministry noted that “the attack affected a large number of power generation units, necessitating the activation of emergency plans and immediate response to mitigate the impact and maintain the stability of the electrical system.”
She added that “the General Fire Force teams responded immediately to the incident to control and extinguish the fire, while the ministry’s technical and emergency teams, in coordination with security authorities, implemented the necessary technical and precautionary measures to secure the station, assess the damages, and work to restore the affected units to service as quickly as possible, in compliance with the highest safety standards.”
She emphasized that “the technical teams are working around the clock to maintain the stability of the electrical system and ensure service continuity, while continuously monitoring power grid indicators and taking all necessary measures to mitigate any potential impact on the system.”
She called on citizens and residents to cooperate with the ministry during this exceptional phase by rationalizing electricity consumption.
Amid these attacks, Foreign Minister Sheikh Jaraah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah held a telephone conversation with his Saudi Arabian counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan. During the call, they condemned the reprehensible Iranian attacks that recently targeted Kuwait.
The Foreign Ministry stated in a statement issued last Saturday that the call reaffirmed Kuwait’s full right to take all necessary measures to safeguard its sovereignty and ensure its security and stability. They also discussed the latest developments in the region, particularly the current escalation and its repercussions, as well as efforts to promote diplomatic solutions, which would contribute to maintaining regional security and stability.
The Foreign Minister also received a phone call from Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi. During the conversation, they condemned the reprehensible Iranian attacks that recently targeted both Kuwait and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Both sides reaffirmed their full right to take all necessary measures to safeguard their sovereignty and ensure their security and stability.
They also discussed the latest developments in the region, particularly the current escalation and its repercussions, as well as efforts to promote diplomatic solutions, which would contribute to maintaining regional security and stability.
In the same context, a wave of Arab and Islamic condemnations continued regarding the reprehensible Iranian attacks on Kuwait, with renewed assurances rejecting the targeting of countries’ sovereignty and vital facilities, and full support for Kuwait’s right to take all necessary measures to protect its security and stability, alongside calls to contain the escalation and enhance diplomatic efforts.
The ministry reiterated the United Arab Emirates’ full solidarity with the Kingdom of Bahrain and Kuwait, and its support for all measures that would preserve their security and stability.
In Cairo, Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy warned of the dangerous repercussions of the current escalation in the region, particularly in the Arabian Gulf, urging the United States and Iran to take immediate action to de-escalate tensions and return to the dialogue track to avoid further losses and destruction.
Fahmy said in a statement that the continuation of the escalation could lead to a loss of control over the situation, causing significant damage to all parties, in addition to its economic repercussions on the region and the global economy.
He reiterated that the blatant Iranian attacks on several Arab countries are firmly rejected and condemned, emphasizing that Arab states had previously rejected war and should not be held responsible for its continuation or escalation as currently occurring.
He called for mutual adherence to the memorandum of understanding signed between the Iranian and American sides last June, and for efforts to ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with international law and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817, while refraining from using it as a tool for pressure or economic blackmail.
Al-Eissa emphasized full solidarity with Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan, regarding all measures they take to safeguard their security, sovereignty, and the safety of their citizens and residents on their territories.
For its part, the Yemeni government strongly condemned the renewed Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting vital facilities in Kuwait, including power plants, water desalination plants, and installations belonging to the oil sector.
The Yemeni Foreign Ministry, in a statement, denounced the attacks that also targeted Bahrain and Jordan, reaffirming its full solidarity with Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan, and its support for all measures they undertake to preserve their security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
