The flood has reached its peak... and the knife has reached the bone
Iran has overstepped its bounds and violated international norms and conventions. This war has exposed the ugly face of this regime, which has never been a comforting one since its revolution. Regional countries, led by my own country, Kuwait, sought to engage with the new reality in the spirit of Kuwaiti diplomacy and its entrenched principles of respecting neighborly rights and non-interference in internal affairs. We welcomed the revolution and congratulated its success, viewing it as the expression of the Iranian people’s will, driven by their dire economic conditions under the Shah, with the hope that a new system would prioritize the people’s concerns. However, the regime has led the Iranian people down empty ideological paths, and its repercussions have proliferated, creating a state of tension that persists to this day. Ultimately, the Iranian people have reaped only misery and poverty, finding themselves in a worse situation than during the Shah’s era.
Iran’s actions today have reached a point that can no longer be ignored. The issue is no longer merely about diplomacy and its success or failure, but about trust. No reasonable person has the slightest confidence in this regime, with all its political, military, and other elites.
Iranian adventurism is no longer a concern for a single party; it has become an issue of Gulf, Arab, and regional security. Turning a blind eye to such practices today could open the door to their repetition tomorrow against any country in the region.
Therefore, the required response at the Gulf and Arab levels is no longer limited to statements of condemnation or expressions of concern. It demands a shift to organized political and diplomatic action, through unifying positions and internationalizing any attacks on civilian infrastructure, and exerting pressure within the Security Council and the United Nations to form a clear international stance that holds accountable any violations proven under international humanitarian law.
