Jordan intercepts three Iranian missiles, fourth falls in remote area

The Jordanian military announced that air defense systems intercepted and shot down three Iranian missiles out of four that targeted the kingdom’s territory, while the fourth missile fell in a remote area to the south, far from populated centers.

For his part, the Israeli military stated that Israeli and Jordanian forces intercepted a missile launched from Iran toward the coastal city of Aqaba. This came after Amman denied reports that it had evacuated the city’s airport and port due to a security threat.

Earlier, Jordan had denied reports claiming it had ordered the evacuation of the international airport and the seaport in the southern coastal city of Aqaba.

Government spokesperson Mohammad Al-Momani said that “authorities have not issued any orders to evacuate Aqaba’s airport or port, which are operating normally,” and he affirmed that no “potential threats” had been recorded.

He added that “any potential risks are warned about by the relevant Jordanian authorities, in accordance with pre-established procedures, including the immediate sounding of air raid sirens.”

Al-Momani’s remarks followed an announcement by the U.S. Embassy in Amman that authorities had evacuated Aqaba’s airport and port “based on a threat,” without specifying its nature. In a post on the X platform, the U.S. Embassy urged American citizens to avoid traveling to the airport or port and advised them to comply with security directives issued by Jordanian authorities, without providing further details about the nature of the threat.
