The General Fireforce has urged citizens and residents to adhere to safety guidelines for elevator use, warning against using elevators during fires. It emphasized that following preventive instructions and ensuring regular maintenance help reduce malfunctions and accidents, thereby preserving the safety of users.
In an awareness video published on its website and social media platforms, the Force stressed the importance of not overloading elevators beyond their specified capacity, as this can cause sudden malfunctions or stoppages between floors. It also highlighted the necessity of preventing children from tampering with the control buttons or panel, emphasizing the need to supervise them and prohibit them from using elevators unaccompanied.
The General Fireforce warned against using elevators during fires or other emergencies, urging people to use stairs as the safest evacuation method, given the life-threatening risks associated with elevator use in such situations.
In the event of an elevator breakdown and people being trapped inside, the Force advised remaining calm and avoiding panic, using the alarm button inside the elevator, and immediately calling the unified emergency number (112). It strongly cautioned against attempting to force open the doors or exit between floors, due to the serious risks involved.
The Force also urged elevator users to be cautious of long clothing and items that might get caught in automatic doors, and to avoid carrying flammable or hazardous materials unless proper preventive measures are observed. Additionally, it stressed the importance of keeping the elevator cab clean and well-ventilated to ensure a safe and healthy environment.
Regarding property owners and building management, the General Fireforce emphasized the importance of conducting regular elevator maintenance through certified technicians and companies. It advised promptly reporting any unusual noises, vibrations, or malfunctions during operation, and refraining from restarting the elevator until the issue has been fully resolved.
The General Fireforce reaffirmed that adhering to these guidelines enhances public safety levels and reduces elevator-related accidents. It renewed its call to not hesitate in contacting the unified emergency number (112) in all emergency situations or when trapped in elevators, wishing safety and security for all.
